In part 1 of this local seo keyword research series I revealed my strategy of how I uncover competitors keywords and start to assemble Industry and service based keyword lists.
In this blog post & over the shoulder video I am going to expand further upon the Service keywords research process.
We once again use keysearch but in today’s I am going to teach you how to dig much deeper for service based keywords, no matter what industry you are in.
You may be thinking that you know the services your business provides so,
Why bother doing service keyword research?
Simply because you know the terminology that you use to describe your services, you also know industry specific language to represent your services – but unless you carry out the research you do not every search term that your potential customers are searching for!
The Simple 2 Stage Process:-
Uncovering all of those keywords come from two stages of the process:-
- Uncover Related Keywords
Brainstorm Your Seed Keywords
The process begins by listing each and every service that your business provides.
An accountant may think that he or she simply provides accountancy services. That is not deep enough, dissect the individual services provided and can then create a comprehensive list of services.
An accountant may have the following services:
- Limited Company Accountancy
- Probate Accountancy
- Bookkeeping Services
They could even go one stage further dissect those services further and think about which services go into Limited Company Accountancy, and come up with the following:
- Corporation tax filing
- Confirmation statement filing
- Winding up ltd companies
Apply the same process for all of the services in your business.
I have created another example in the carpet cleaning industry:
- Carpet Cleaning
- Rug Cleaning
- Hard Floor Cleaning
Dissecting each of these services leads us to the following service keywords:
- Stain Removal
- Carpet Protection
- Wool Rug Cleaning
- Oriental Rug Cleaning
Hard Floor Cleaning
- Stone Floor Cleaning
- Tile Cleaning
- Grout Cleaning
In this brainstorming phase you need to drill down into all of your services as these keywords will form the base of the next stage.
Discovering Related Keywords
Related Keywords appear at the bottom of Google search results, Keysearch automates following these related suggestions – providing you with hundreds of related search terms for a single search term.
Using the “related keywords” feature for each and every one of your main service keywords you will again reveal search terms that your potential customers could be using when searching for a business like yours.
For the example “Accountant in Liverpool” we would run keysearch for each of their main service keywords:
- Limited company accounting
- VAT Accounting
Each search for a service keyword in keysearch brings back a unique set of keywords that are highly related to it.
Copy each set of keywords into your spreadsheet.
Remember to remove the duplicate keywords at the end of the process.
Once you have completed this process then you know that you have thoroughly completed service based local seo keyword research and will have collected virtually every related keyword in the process.
This data will be used to plan your perfect website structure, optimize for those terms and also be used in link building for topics and as the anchor text for your back links.
